Cepparello is one of them — a pioneering Super Tuscan born from Paolo de Marchi’s belief in the extraordinary potential of Sangiovese.
First produced in 1980, it challenged the conventions of its time. When Chianti Classico rules required a blend of grape varieties, Paolo chose to make a wine entirely from Sangiovese. His ambition was to show just how much this grape could express on its own.
Years of observing and selecting the estate’s finest vines helped shape what became Isole e Olena’s flagship wine — and a defining expression of Tuscany.
What’s on the table:
We’ll taste Cepparello 2020, 2021 and 2022 side by side.
A vertical tasting means exploring the same wine across different vintages. With the producer, place and grape variety as our reference points, we can pay closer attention to what changes: the character of each growing season, the balance of fruit and freshness, the shape of the tannins and the way each wine opens in the glass.
These are three consecutive vintages, offering a close look at the subtle differences that make wine so fascinating.
The experience:
We’ll explore the story behind Cepparello, its place in the Super Tuscan movement and Paolo de Marchi’s dedication to Sangiovese.
There will be time to revisit each glass, compare impressions and follow the wines as they unfold. You don’t need expert vocabulary — curiosity and your own palate are enough.
The hedonist’s credo remains unchanged — pleasure. And part of that pleasure is opening special bottles together, sharing conversation and discovering something you might have missed on your own.
